LIASA Conference sees the birth of new Marketing and Advocacy Interest Group

A new interest group for marketing & advocacy saw the light of day at the recent LIASA Annual Conference held in Durban. Officially called the Marketing & Advocacy Interest Group (MAIG), the draft constitution was adopted at the Interest Group meeting held on Wednesday, 3 October 2012 and an interim committee was formed to take matters forward for the next 2 years. The interim committee includes:
- Chair - Rebecca Senyolo
- Secretary – Mmakgoshi Reetseng
- Additional member - Nkosinathi Qubeka
- Additional member - Tembela Mdingi
The new interest group aims to:
- Unite library and information workers interested in furthering and improving library and information services throughout South Africa by means of marketing and advocating for LIS;
- Provide for the exchange of new ideas and experiences among members at national and regional workshops, meetings and conferences;
- Liaise and co-operate with other groups and organizations in the advancement of the marketing of and advocacy of library and information services in South Africa;
- Advocate for the enhancement and development of LIS in South Africa;
- Advocate for, and address all issues, which are of importance to and which affect LIS in South Africa
